Solare Engineering is seeking a talented individual for the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer. In this role, you will lead the mechanical design project team to create exceptional designs for new projects, alterations, and renovations on a variety of projects including commercial, municipal, multi-family, government, healthcare, institutional, industrial, and warehouse, historic structures. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting Mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
Position Overview
- Provide leadership, training, and guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Lead, manage and mentor the mechanical and plumbing team.
- Prepare engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet contracted scope of work and to ensure application of Thermodynamic Principles in the HVAC Engineering Design including load/energy modeling, calculations, etc.
- Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Civil and Structural Engineering construction practices.
- LEED experience in the design and certification of LEED buildings.
- Performs engineering calculations using accepted methods and computer software.
- Communication with internal staff, clients, and other consultants/disciplines.
- Coordinates and oversees the preparation of floor plans, site plans, and other drawings for complex structures.
- Reviews and approves Mechanical design packages developed by design teams.
- Performs field review of existing facilities to determine and verify relevant services and site layout, and to coordinate construction with plans and specifications.
- Responsible for system design, sizing, and layout, selection of components for systems, plumbing, and/or HVAC design.
- Review mechanical submittals and coordinate with other disciplines.
- Responsible for Quality Control process through all phases of the contract from the beginning through construction administration.
- Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities and be responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
- Support the business development process through input to proposals, meeting and presenting to prospective customers as well as the Request for Qualifications (RFQ’s) and Statements of Qualifications.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and contracts by developing project approach, scope of services and budgets based on similar project experience and participate in client interviews.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Certified Professional Engineer (P.E.); Licensed Engineer in the State of Texas
- 8 to 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in an MEP consulting environment
- Experience with HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical engineering for projects that include healthcare, education, municipal, commercial, multi-family, and industrial.
- Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Requirements include a strong understanding of engineering, design, and documentation principles, practices, and standards, an understanding of materials and systems, and a thorough knowledge of Engineering detailing and construction methodology.
- Excellent knowledge of the related codes and standards including the ICC Codes and ASHRAE.
- Excellent knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects with the ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

This role will be responsible for the design and 3D modeling of projects for systems to include Domestic Water Distribution Systems, Sanitary/Waste/Vent Systems, RO/DI Water Distribution Systems, Lab Gas Distribution Systems, Hospital Gas Distribution Systems, Animal Watering Systems, Acid Waste Systems to name a few. Essential Job Functions
- General design and production of plumbing and fire protection systems drawings from preliminary stages to final construction drawings
- Proven knowledge in plumbing equipment selection, piping design, and applicable Codes and Standards.
- Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting state and local codes, professional publications, and technical data.
- Knowledge of central hot water system design, domestic water, sanitary sewer, storm, compressed air, vacuum and natural gas systems.
- Layout and size equipment and perform load calculations.
- Provide technical expertise during the design phase (schematic, design development) to coordinate spaces required for those systems.
- Coordinate between disciplines and produce working documents using AutoCAD and REVIT.
- Communicate effectively with all parties involved in the design, coordination, and construction process.
- Perform Construction Administration duties during the course of project construction.
- Work with the Design Manager and Project team members to maintain design standards and quality control of the plumbing plans.
- Work with the Project Manager and Design Manager to ensure that the design documents being produced are correct per all applicable codes and standards, company standards and the clients’ wishes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred)
- Minimum Associate’s in Mechanical Drafting Technology or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 4+ years’ experience in drafting and designing plumbing and fire protection systems
- Knowledge of applicable codes and general engineering practices
- Knowledgeable in the design of domestic water, drainage, compressed air, vacuum, and natural gas systems
- Understanding of fire protection design, building and NFPA Codes, and
- Capable of conducting sprinkler system hydraulic calculations
- Work experience on a wide range of plumbing design projects is highly desirable
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication skills

- Select equipment and fixtures for use in the specific building systems & types.
- Prepare and document Energy compliance calculations and forms.
- Performs construction administration and field investigation tasks for projects including conducting field inspections and subsequent detailed inspection reports.
- Write progress reports and present them to project managers and clients.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors on new construction/renovation projects.
- Review electrical design specifications and drawings.
- Designing low voltage electrical distribution systems, switchboards, MCC’s, generators, transformers, UPS.
- Review construction cost estimates and budgets.
- Work on multiple projects.

- Engineer-in-Training preferred
